Acorn ConnectEd was founded by child psychiatrist Tessa Chesser to train caregivers in trauma-informed approaches to supporting children. The organization needed a brand that could hold both the warmth of that human mission and the credibility of a professional education platform. Those two qualities don’t always coexist easily, and finding the visual language to bridge them was the central challenge of this project.
The icon went through careful development to land on a form that earns its meaning rather than just illustrating it. The overlapping arc segments that form the acorn cap are drawn from the same visual vocabulary as a connectivity signal, making the concept of “connected education” feel inherent to the shape rather than forced. The progression of greens within the mark, from deep forest to a lighter willow, gives it a sense of movement and emergence that mirrors the growth narrative behind the Acorn name.
The full color system extends that story across five named tones: Black Forest, Fern, Moss, Willow, and Dry Sage. Together they reference the natural world without feeling rustic or informal, keeping the brand rooted in its mission while maintaining the polish expected of a clinical and educational context.
The second phase of the project brought the brand into the LearnWorlds platform, where Tessa hosts her caregiver training courses. Working within the constraints of a template-based LMS, we customized the platform to reflect the established visual identity, creating a cohesive experience from first impression through course enrollment. The goal was for the site to feel purpose-built rather than off-the-shelf, giving Acorn ConnectEd a professional home that matches the quality of the work happening inside it.
